Banana Blueberry muffin smoothie

Banana Blueberry muffin smoothie

While scrolling on Facebook the other day a great avoidance tactic to “avoid” raking the endless leaves that fall onto our property from the neighbors tree. I stumble on an article of the many benefits of Bananas. Now, I know that bananas have a staying power and are a great source of potassium and magnesium. I see so many of them on RAGBRAI you would think the monkeys from the Amazon had overtaken the towns that us cyclists roll through. That said I greatly dislike bananas, I am okay with banana bread sometimes, but to go as far as to pick one up and just eat it, naw… I cannot remember a moment in my years of existence that I have ever just grabbed a Banana for a snack, Plantains I LOVE; dried banana chips sometimes are okay, nothing else though I can't hang the smell nor the texture.

Back to my original point now. I read this article and decide okay taste buds change every seven years I will try a banana smoothie… I loved it! (Well after adding blueberries.) Now I will share with you a few of the benefits of bananas that most people are unaware of and how you can make a fabulous smoothie that even banana haters will dig.

Banana Benefits

Encourages growth of good bacteria and produces digestive enzymes

High fiber content helps with regularity, also bananas are soothing to the digestive system and helps restore electrolytes.

High in antioxidants

Controls blood sugar

Plus from what I read too much information for me to list

So the smoothie Recipe I have come up with tastes kind of like a blueberry bananish muffin.

Ingredients for Banana Blueberry Smoothie

Makes about 3 8 oz. smoothies

3 or 4 good sized Bananas

½ cup or more to taste of blueberries (I used organic frozen)

5 TBSP hemp protein powder

1 Tsp. cinnamon powder

½ Tsp. Cacao powder

2 TBSP ground Flax and Chia seed mix (more to taste but, too many will be a bit gritty.)

2 TBSP Coconut oil

1 1/2 cup Almond milk

If you want to thin it out further add more almond milk or water.

Throw it all in the food processor let it puree and Boom! You’ve got an antioxidant, protein packed pick me upper!

The blueberries came about the second day when I decided it was just too much banana without them :)
